EARTHSIDE ANOMALY REPORT 002
Subject: Reports of “Little People”
Origin: Yunnan Province, Earth
Classification: Anomalous Perceptual Event
Priority: Level 3 - Low
Status: Further investigation recommended
Summary
Seasonal reports from Yunnan describe people seeing tiny humanlike figures, sometimes called “little people” or elves, moving through their surroundings. The accounts share a striking visual theme. Investigation found one recurring link: the affected individuals had eaten wild mushrooms identified as Lanmaoa asiatica, sometimes known locally as the “little people” mushroom.
Findings
A 2024 review of 81 patients treated at a Yunnan hospital found visual hallucinations were the most common first symptom. Some patients described tiny people or elves. The reports were individual cases linked by mushroom consumption, rather than evidence that groups of people witnessed the same figures together. (onlinelibrary.wiley.com)
The mushroom is eaten as a regional delicacy when prepared thoroughly. Improperly cooked specimens can cause poisoning with gastrointestinal and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Researchers have not yet identified the specific compound or mechanism responsible for the unusual visual effects. (onlinelibrary.wiley.com, science.utah.edu)
Assessment
Current evidence points to a toxicological explanation for the reported visions. The repeated “little people” motif remains unusual, but there is no evidence that the figures are independently present or externally observed.
GBA Note
The reports describe a perception, not confirmed visitors. The cause appears terrestrial; the precise mechanism remains unresolved.
Disposition
Further investigation needed. Level 3 - Low priority. Monitor future clinical and mycological research for identification of the active compound and a clearer account of why the hallucinations take this particular form.
End report.
